2025 – an end of year message from David, CEO

As we close 2025, I want to take a moment to thank every single member of the MOVE Against Cancer community — our participants, ambassadors, volunteers, fundraisers, partners, trustees and supporters. Together, you have helped us achieve another year of support and movement for 1000s impacted by cancer.

Since joining the charity as CEO in July, I’ve had the privilege of meeting (and moving) with many of you at events and 5k Your Way groups across the UK. I’ve seen first hand the impact MOVE and its community has had for so many. I’ve been inspired by the passion, resilience, and generosity that defines this community. All united by the belief that movement matters and that together we can make a profound difference.

This year MOVE has continued to expand its support through our Online Programme, our MOVE Your Way resources, our work with local groups and communities across the UK, and of course, 5k Your Way. This landmark initiative is now available at 125 parkrun locations across the UK and associated groups in Ireland, supported by more than 600 volunteer ambassadors. Every last Saturday of the month, thousands of people living with and beyond cancer, alongside families, friends, and healthcare professionals, come together to walk, jog, run, cheer, or volunteer. What happens in those few hours together is about more than just movement — it’s about building connections and community.

Looking ahead, 2026 will be a landmark year for MOVE Against Cancer as we celebrate our 10th anniversary as a charity. Since 2016 our mission has been to support, inspire and empower people impacted by cancer to live an active and fulfilling life. The charity was founded by former international athlete Gemma Hillier Moses after she was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma at the age of 24. Gemma needed support to stay active during and after treatment and regain her fitness but the support just didn’t exist. She created MOVE Against Cancer charity with the goal of providing other people with cancer the kind of support she didn’t receive. Over the years, MOVE has grown into one of the leading cancer charities focused on physical activity. Ten years of building connections, championing movement, and supporting people impacted by cancer to live active and fulfilling lives. And we are only just getting started.

We are proud in 2026 to be launching our new campaign: Moving More Together. This campaign will build on everything we’ve learned over the past decade and help us to reach more people than ever before. It’s about raising awareness of this vital area for cancer care, helping to scale our programme of support, deepening our partnerships, and ensuring that every individual impacted by cancer has the opportunity to benefit from the power of movement. It will be a year to celebrate and support each other as we aim to help more people than ever before. So watch this space for more information and lots of ways you can support.

None of this success however would be possible without you. Your dedication, generosity, and belief in our mission inspire us every day. On behalf of the entire MOVE Against Cancer team, thank you for being part of this journey. We won’t stop until every individual impacted by cancer is supported and empowered to engage in and maintain an active lifestyle. Movement matters more than ever.

Wishing you all the best for the holidays and a very Happy New Year,

David Henderson
