On completing the form below, your details will be added to our database and we will be in touch soon.

Here’s some information about what becoming a 5KYW Ambassador involves…

  • This is a volunteer ambassador role that is incredibly rewarding but also requires dedication, time and some additional hours outside the monthly group events.
  • The role is to lead the 5k Your Way group, to champion its benefits to the cancer community and to build a small support team.
  • We will support you as an ambassador. However, it’s important to remember that each of our groups must be driven by a small team of committed and passionate ambassadors.

  • As we grow, the challenge of educating and helping health care professionals – that work in cancer care pathways – understand the benefits of movement, physical activity and exercise when living with and beyond cancer is becoming easier. However, in places it can still be a challenge.
  • The key to starting a 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer group is to find the right person to become an ambassador and to set up the group linked to their local parkrun.
  • It’s important to build relationships and create signposting routes at local hospitals, GP surgeries and through other organisations as well as support groups. We will provide support with this once you have started with us as an ambassador.

  • The time it takes from first contact to starting the group varies greatly and each group is different. There are a number of criteria to meet but we will be with you every step of the way to help you get set up successfully.
  • Each group should have 5 ambassadors one of which needs to be a Health Care professional connected with local cancer services, hospitals or GP practices.
  • The health Care Professional(s) do not necessarily have to be at each group meet up but they need to be connected as an ambassador. More details on this will be shared in the starter pack.

“It’s one of the best things I’ve done after my diagnosis, inspiring me to be the best I can be, but also to inspire others to take that first step.” – Allyson

“I’ve been a volunteer at Llanerchaeron Parkrun for a while and love the community we have. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2022, I joined the 5k your way group. Being part of a group where people understand your emotions is important to me.” – Julie

“Being a 5K Your Way ambassador holds immense importance to me because it’s a platform to combat the isolation often experienced by people with cancer. By encouraging participation in inclusive 5K events, we create opportunities for them to connect with others, fostering a sense of community and support. Making 5Ks enjoyable and accessible not only promotes physical activity but also uplifts spirits, empowering individuals to reclaim joy and vitality amidst their cancer prognosis.” – Ruth
