Nordic Walking: An Introduction

MOVE Against Cancer is delighted to announce that a young person who was supported on the MOVE Online Programme has been named as part of The Challenge Squad for BBC Children In Need 2024.
Grace, 19, was announced as part of the four person team on BBC’s The One Show. She will take on a personal challenge to help raise funds for BBC Children In Need, which supports MOVE’s work with young people.
Grace who is from Glasgow, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma just days after her 16th birthday. Treatment was extensive and included a stem-cell transplant, immunotherapy, an operation to remove the tumour and chemotherapy.
Grace was referred to MOVE Against Cancer’s Online Programme in Autumn 2023, to help her build up her fitness and strength and regain her confidence. She was supported 1-1 by a MOVE Cancer Rehabilitation Instructor who set her a programme tailored to her needs. Grace returned to the gym during the 8 week programme, thanks to MOVE’s partnership with Puregym, who provided Grace and her Dad with free membership.
“Regaining your sense of self after cancer can be a long journey, but I have come so far in my recovery. The support of MOVE allowed me to become healthier in both my body and mind. Now, I welcome this opportunity to give back and raise awareness for all who find themselves on a similar journey.”
Championed by BBC The One Show presenters Alex Jones, Roman Kemp and joined by other celebrity supporters to be announced in the coming weeks, the squad will each find out what challenge they have been set, with all the challenges ramping up for some very special moments over the BBC Children in Need 2024 Appeal week.
‘This is massive for Grace and it’s such a special opportunity. We hope it shows other young people living with or beyond cancer about the benefits of movement and inspires everyone to take on their own challenges, no matter how big or small. The whole MOVE Against Cancer community is right behind her,” said MOVE Interim Charity Lead Nazmeen Wardle-Bi.
Keep watching The One Show this October and November on BBC One to see how the challenges unfold and keep an eye on MOVE’s social channels to find out more about Grace and her challenge.
