MARK: A WIDOWER’S STORY
By Mark Sangan
My name is Charlie and I was diagnosed with cancer in the lungs in 2017. After intensive chemotherapy and surgery I was given the news in 2018 that I was in remission.

I am a physical trainer with the Metropolitan Police and a keen runner so movement and exercise have always been important to me. I truly believe that if it wasn’t for my level of fitness, I would not have been able to cope with the intensity of cancer treatment.
A regular at Fulham Palace parkrun, it was here that I heard about 5k Your Way. As soon as I read about the work of MOVE Against Cancer charity, it was a no brainer! I made a successful application to set up a 5KYW group at Fulham Palace and became an Ambassador.
I am following a structured marathon training plan with the Runna App which is going really well! I recently completed the 16 mile Kingston Breakfast Run so I’m on track to complete the London Marathon distance in 4 hours.
This will be a massive achievement after beating lung cancer and undergoing 2 hip replacements. To be running for MOVE Against Cancer is a massive honour and I want to show through MOVE that with exercise and movement, that your body can do amazing things – even after cancer.
